A Cowgirl’s Warning
I do as my grandmother
And mother did,
I sleep with a pistol
By my bed.
Because some have wrong thoughts
As to who’s innocent,
And make a choice
That can lead to their death.
I’m not a rabbit
That becomes frozen in fear,
I’m a freaking Annie Oakley
A sure shot my dear.
But I don’t play gunning
All day in my head,
Just at night
While snuggled alone in my bed.
